Firefly Generations

The much-loved space Western Firefly's fourth original novel, produced with Joss Whedon as consulting editor, is set between the TV series and the movie Serenity. On an Outer Rim moon, Captain Malcolm Reynolds ends a card game as the lucky winner of an old map covered in mysterious symbols. The former owner insists it's worthless, but back on Serenity, River Tam is able to interpret it.

River claims the map points the way to one of the Arks: legendary generation ships that brought humans from Earth-That-Was to the 'Verse. The salvage potential alone is staggering. As the crew approach the aged floating ship, they find it isn't quite as dead as it first seemed. The closer they get, the more agitated River becomes. She claims something is waiting on board, something powerful, and very angry.

This ancient legend has captivated the crew, and they set out to uncover the secrets of the Ark. The map leads them to a remote and desolate region of space, where they find the hulking form of the ancient vessel drifting aimlessly. As they prepare to board the ship, River's warnings grow more insistent, and the crew begins to feel a sense of unease.

Once they set foot on the Ark, they are confronted with a nightmare. The ship is not abandoned, as they had assumed, but rather inhabited by a terrifying presence that has been dormant for centuries. As they explore the cavernous interior, they discover remnants of the original colonists, long since turned to dust, and a sense of dread begins to permeate the air.

The deeper they venture, the more they uncover about the true nature of the Ark and the dark secrets it holds. River's visions become more vivid and disturbing, and the crew must rely on her insight to navigate the treacherous path ahead. They find themselves pitted against a force that is not only ancient but also powerful beyond their comprehension.

As they delve further into the mystery, the crew must confront their own fears and demons, both personal and cosmic. The stakes are high, and the fate of the 'Verse may hang in the balance. Can they uncover the truth before it's too late, or will they too succumb to the relentless power of the Ark's dark secret?
